CITY OF HEALDSBURG, PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT

The Before/After School Program is located at The City of Healdsburg Community Center at Foss Creek School. The program is funded by both the ASES and 21st Century grants. The ASES grant provides after school services for 88 children from Kindergarten through 5th grade and 59 children from 6th through 8th grade at no cost. The 21st Century grants provides before school services for 29 children and after school services for 44 children from Kindergarten through 5th grade at no cost.

Children are transported to and from their schools the Healdsburg School Bus Transportation. In both the before and after school programs, the emphasis is on homework assistance (60 minutes per day in afterschool), enrichment activities, nutritious snack and active physical play. The enrichment activities include art, science, gardening, cooking, dancing and sewing activities. A literacy program is provided by the 4-H Club and a parenting class is taught by a representative from Social Advocates for Youth.

Collaboration and positive communication between the School District, Healdsburg Boys and Girls Club and the City is a priority for the program. Volunteers to assist in all aspects of the program are being recruited to enhance the learning environment.
